Dental Sealants

Stop tooth decay from happening with one easy solution: dental sealants! Sealants can be used over areas of early decay to prevent further damage to your tooth. Dental sealants will often last for several years before they need to be reapplied. During your regular dental exams every 6-months, your dentist will check the condition of the sealant and can reapply sealant material as needed.

What are Dental Sealants?

Dental sealants are a thin, protective coating that adheres to the chewing surface of your back teeth which are used to stop the decay of teeth. Dental sealants can help reduce the risk of tooth decay by around 50%. Sealed teeth require the same conscientious dental hygiene as unsealed teeth, and a dental sealant is not to be considered an alternative to a dental filling or removal of a cavity.

Because of the likelihood of developing decay in the grooves of the premolars and molars, children and teenagers are the most likely candidates for sealants. However, adults without decay or fillings in their molars can also benefit from sealants.
